The Wannabe

Every so often you meet the type of person who so desperately wants to fit in, be friends with everyone and be successful in their career. These are desires many people have, but not necessarily all.
While I was engaging in “The Juggling,” and decided to work a lot more in the retail world, I met a manager from “The Monkey Business” who epitomized the aforementioned characteristics.
She started off not giving everyone the warmest reception, but it was her responsibility to help train the new associates. When I first met her, I didn’t really know what to think, but decided to look forward regardless.
Her demeanor was hard to describe, but judging by looks, she didn’t seem to be the nicest of people (especially since I already met so many people while working in retail). She would sometimes snap momentarily when something didn’t go her way, and then try to rectify it shortly afterwards.
As time went on, the working relationship with this woman improved and it became slightly easier to work with her. However, she still treated the associates as if they were beneath her, and unfortunately never seemed to actually move past that obtuse way of thinking.
After working with her for a decent amount of time, the atmosphere would improve little by little, but there would always be that part of her which seemed to hold an inexplicable feeling of contempt for others. She would also often make off-color comments that would offend any other person, but luckily, others and myself who worked there didn’t take them personally.
Anyone can cross paths with this type of person in life, not just working in retail or an environment like that. They are the overachieving type who yearns for widespread acceptance while striving to be the best boss they can possibly be.
